Character Adds To Beauty...Jacqueline Bisset

Character contributes to beauty. It fortifies a woman as her youth fades. A mode of conduct, a standard of courage, discipline, fortitude, and integrity can do a great deal to make a woman beautiful.

Wisdom For A Leader Who Aspires To Greatness!

"If you have some respect for people as they are, you can be more effective in helping them to become better than they are."

--John W. Gardner

Every Tuesday, WOMEN AT LIBERTY provides a platform for a variety of voices and resources to develop, encourage, and strengthen women leaders. Today we are featuring current statistics and information on women in leadership. From today's article, "Women’s Leadership by the Numbers" by the Center for American Progress, we are made aware of the following:

Women make up a majority of the U.S. population: women are 50.8 percent of the U.S. population. They earn almost 60 percent of undergraduate degrees, and 60 percent of all master’s degrees.

  • They earn 47 percent of all law degrees, and 48 percent of all medical degrees.
  • They earn more than 44 percent of master’s degrees in business and management, including 37 percent of MBAs.
  • They are 47 percent of the U.S. labor force, and 59 percent of the college-educated, entry-level workforce.
However, women are still 14.1% of executive officers and 8.1% of top earners. The facts are just that, the facts. In order to change "the facts", we must all commit to doing everything within our power to advance women leaders. That "we" includes both women and men.

Here are some questions to ponder:

  • Do you speak up to encourage other women to become leaders or aspire to leadership positions?
  • Do you seek out qualified women for leadership positions or recommend women for leadership training programs within your organizations as often as possible?
  • Do you vigorously advocate for other women in your workplace?
  • Do you encourage young girls and young women to see themselves as leaders and don't limit themselves to the traditional confines that society can put on women?
