10 Things Authentic Leaders Do...#5Build Teams & Create Communities
#5
They build teams and create communities. One of the primary things that people are looking for in their work experience is a sense of community. In the old days, we got our community from where we lived. We would have block parties and street picnics. In the new age of work, employees seek their sense of community and connection from the workplace. Authentic leaders create workplaces that foster human linkages and lasting friendships.

10 Things Authentic Leaders Do...#4They Are Courageous
#4
They are courageous. It takes a lot of courage to go against the crowd. It takes a lot of courage to be a visionary. It takes a lot of inner strength to do what you think is right even though it may not be easy. We live in a world where so many people walk the path of least resistance. Authentic leadership is all about taking the road less traveled and doing, not what is easy, but what is right.

Ideas...Jim Henson
“I don't know exactly where ideas come from, but when I'm working well ideas just appear. I've heard other people say similar things - so it's one of the ways I know there's help and guidance out there. It's just a matter of our figuring out how to receive the ideas or information that are waiting to be heard.”

“Reminds us that greatness lies even in the smallest of moments, in the humblest of hearts, and we shall, each of us, be called to greatness. Whether we shall rise to meet it or let it slip away is the challenge put before us all.”

10 Things Authentic Leaders Do ...They Have Rich Moral Fiber
#3
They have rich moral fiber. Who you are speaks far more loudly than anything you could ever say. Strength of character is true power - and people can feel it a mile away. Authentic leaders work on their character. They walk their talk and are aligned with their core values. They are noble and good. And in doing so, people trust, respect and listen to them.

Every other Tuesday, WOMEN AT LIBERTY provides a platform for a variety of voices and resources to develop, encourage, and strengthen women leaders. Over the past ten months, a number of articles have been posted featuring women in leadership from many arenas including corporate America, education, and non-profit organizations. Also a series of blogs were posted discussing why women seem to prefer law and medical post graduate degrees over MBAs. To view those Leadership Tuesdays articles as well as our archives, click here.

10 Things Authentic Leaders Do ...#2They Lead From The Heart
#2
They lead from the heart. Business is about people. Leadership is about people. The best leaders wear their hearts on their sleeves and are not afraid to show their vulnerability. They genuinely care about other people and spend their days developing the people around them. They are like the sun: the sun gives away all it has to the plants and the trees. But in return, the plants and the trees always grow toward the sun.

That discussion was the catalyst for a series of blogs and articles. Today the last installment, "The Pitt Experience" will be posted (after 6:30 pm on 10/2/12) on womenatliberty.com. In this blog, I talk about my educational experience at the University of Pittsburgh and some potential strategies for increasing the number of women enrolling in Business School. I Know God Watches Over Me | Song: His Eye Is On The Sparrow
29 What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. 30 And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

Your Life...Suzanne Weyn
“Your life is an occasion. Rise to it.” ―Suzanne Weyn
Every other Tuesday, WOMEN AT LIBERTY provides a platform for a variety of voices and resources to develop, encourage, and strengthen women leaders. In May 2012, I had the opportunity to meet with Dean John T. Delaney, PhD. of the University of Pittsburgh's Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business. We talked about the current state of women in executive leadership and why women do not choose to get advanced business degrees at the same rate they obtain professional degrees in other areas, like law and medicine.
That discussion was the catalyst for a series of blogs and articles. In the last installment, "The Pitt Experience" I talk about my educational experience at the University of Pittsburgh and some potential strategies for increasing the number of women enrolling in Business School. In full disclosure, I received my MBA degree from the University of Pittsburgh. You are also invited to read the series of articles here.

10 Things Authentic Leaders Do...Robin Sharma
#1
They speak their truth. In business today, we frequently 'swallow our truth'. We say things to please others and to look good in front of The Crowd. Authentic leaders are different. They consistently talk truth. They would never betray themselves by using words that are not aligned with who they are. This does not give anyone a license to say things that are hurtful to people. Speaking truth is simply about being clear, being honest and being authentic.
--Robin Sharma, author of 'The Saint, The Surfer and The CEO'

“Aerodynamically, the bumble bee shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumble bee doesn't know it so it goes on flying anyway.”
